Services
Before carrying out any procedures, we perform a thorough examination. Above all, we take strides to make our patients feel comfortable about receiving dental services.

Our complete comprehensive dentistry services for children include the following:

General Anesthesia

For children with extensive dental needs or special health care needs, sitting in the dental clinic setting can be very challenging and frightening. General anesthesia allows us to complete all the dental care in a safe and controlled environment without discomfort for your child. Our office is credentialed with Cook Children’s Hospital so we can guarantee your child is getting the best quality care there is.

Sedation

Sedation can be beneficial to children and adolescents who would otherwise be nervous and fearful during dental treatment. With local anesthetics and sedative medications, your child can have a dental experience free of anxiety and pain.

Nitrous Oxide

Sometimes children who are normally calm and comfortable in a pediatric dental office feel anxious before or during treatment. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a safe and effective way to calm and help your child feel comfortable during treatment.

Dental Emergency

Our office is dedicated to treating dental injuries, including toothache and teeth that have been chipped, moved, or knocked out entirely. Please call our office for assistance. However, if your child is having a life-threatening or severe injury, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

First Dental Visit

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends the first checkup for your child by the age of 1. At this visit, we will check the baby teeth for early cavities, show you how to properly care for a young child’s mouth, go over diet and nutrition, discuss your child’s developmental milestones, and discuss the importance of good oral hygiene.

Special Needs

Every child deserves optimal dental care. Yet it is sometimes more difficult for children with special needs to get the proper care. We can help. Our extra years in training gives us specialized knowledge as well as increased awareness and attention in order to provide the best care possible. It is important to us that we tailor an environment that is comfortable, safe, and encouraging specific for your child’s needs.

Preventive Dentistry

Most dental problems take time to develop and can go undetected in your child for a long time. Preventive dentistry begins with the first tooth. Thus, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends your child’s 1st pediatric visit at the eruption of the first tooth or by the age of 1. At this visit, you will learn how to protect your infant’s dental health. The earlier the dental visit, the better the chance of preventing dental disease and helping your child to build a cavity-free smile.

Bruxism (Grinding)

Teeth grinding or bruxism is very common amongst children. The good news is most children outgrow bruxism. When indicated, we can make nightguards to help protect the teeth from excessive wear.

Thumb, Finger, and Pacifier Habits

These habits are completely normal for babies and young children. In fact, it provides security and allows young babies to make contact with and learn about the world. Most children stop sucking habits on their own. However in some cases, these practices can negatively impact the jaw. We can work together to provide a customized plan to help break the habit for your child.

Fillings

Dental fillings are used to fill in the holes or gaps (cavity) in the tooth that is caused by decay or trauma. This is a simple and painless process that prevents the decay from spreading further into your tooth and possibly infecting the nerve. We offer both white tooth colored fillings as well as silver.

Sealants

Dental sealants are a tooth-colored coating that is placed on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth where your child is most likely to get tooth decay. A sealed tooth is far less likely to develop a cavity which could require expensive dental treatment and cause pain to your child.

Crowns

Crowns are coverings placed over damaged teeth to strengthen and allow them to function normally again. Metal crowns are sometimes recommended as a temporary solution for damaged baby teeth until the permanent teeth come in.

Fluoride

Water fluoridation is the single most significant health contribution to the decrease of dental caries. However not every child gets enough fluoride and that is the reason topical fluoride applied in the dental office may be recommended for your child.

Space Maintainers

If a baby tooth is lost too soon, a “space maintainer” may be needed to hold the space open until the permanent tooth comes in to fill it. This will help keep your child’s teeth in normal positions and hopefully avoid the need for braces later on.
